The National Common Entrance Test (NCET) aims to streamline admission for students who have completed their 12th and wish to pursue undergraduate studies in disciplines like BA, B.Sc, and B.Com with integrated B.Ed programs.
To facilitate this National level combined entrance exam, the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has forged collaborations with Regional Education Institutions (REIs), Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), National Institute of Technology (NITs), and various other state and central level universities.
Implementing this National Common Entrance Test (NCET) simplifies the various admission processes and determines admission in a Dual Major Programme. The first major is in Education with School Specific Stage specialization, and the second major is in an opted discipline, such as BA+B.Ed, B.Sc+ B.Ed, or B.Com+B.Ed. However, admission to these universities/institutions will be further evaluated with their set criteria.
So, What is going to change? The Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) program, once typically spanning one or two years, has undergone substantial changes.
As per the New National Education Policy, only a four-year B.Ed teaching training will be considered eligible after 2030. Scheme and Subject combinations of National Common Entrance Test (NCET 2024)
The scheme and subject combinations of the National Common Entrance Test are thoughtfully structured to evaluate the candidate’s language proficiency, understanding of specific subjects, general awareness, and teaching aptitude. Here’s a brief overview:
- Section 1 (Language):
- There are 38 different languages available.
- Two languages need to be chosen, referred to as Language One and Language Two.
- For each language, a separate language paper needs to be chosen.
- Each language paper consists of 23 questions.
- Out of these 23 questions, 20 questions need to be attempted.
- Section 2 (Specific Subject):
- 26 domain-specific subjects are being offered under this section.
- A candidate may choose any 3 subjects as desired.
- Section 3 (General test):
- This is a mandatory section.

The Ministry of Education Government of India has established the National Testing Agency (NTA) as an independent autonomous and self-sustained premier testing organization.
National Testing Agency (NTA) has been entrusted with the responsibility of conducting National Common Entrance Test, for admission in 4-year Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) in central and state-level universities and institutions.
